Overview

This course is the first in a two-part orientation series for individuals interested in learning more about what is involved in becoming a licensed child care provider in the state of Massachusetts. Through this training, EEC will introduce participants to the licensing rules, business considerations, and professional qualifications needed to run a licensed child care business.

Objective

After completing this training, you will:

  • Know more about EEC and Family Child Care (FCC);
  • Understand how to access and read the FCC Regulations;
  • Learn the minimum requirements to become a licensed FCC program;
  • Recognize some of the business and personal considerations of running the FCC business in your home; 
  • Understand how to apply to EEC for a Family Child Care license
Additional Information

If you are thinking about opening a child care business, this program will help you understand the requirements and responsibilities, as well as the process for applying for an EEC license, including how to submit your application and prepare for your provisional license. Family Child Care refers to services that are provided in a private residence on a regular basis for:

  • children younger than 14, OR 
  • children younger than 16 years old if such children have special needs
  • during part or all of the day
