Supporting Families Facing Adversity

Course Number
CS09: 04
Overview
We are often very motivated to develop strong relationships with the families of children enrolled in our programs, but it does not always unfold as organically as we hope. There are many barriers to family engagement, and some of those may be credited to various stressors experienced outside the walls of our programs. Participants will have the opportunity to explore those adversities, reflect on the challenges of not always knowing what happens for families when they go home for the day, and making plans to support them anyway.
Objective
Participants will be able to:
identify stressors in families they serve;
utilize strategies for communicating with families facing adversity;
create program protocols for responding to families in crisis.
Additional Information

Participants are expected to attend all sessions of an event in order to receive credit for attending. Participants will be marked as “completed” in the LMS if they attend no less than 85% of the total sessions for the event (see table below) and complete all necessary coursework.
