Overview

Recognizing red flags in the developmental milestones of children and understanding what to do next is important for all childcare educators to know.  This course will provide a better understanding of recognizing the difference between a typically developing child and one who may be experiencing delays. Strategies for talking to parents about sensitive issues will be explored.

Objective

After completing this course, you will:                                                                           
1.
Define the term “red flags”  and how it relates to the typical developmental milestones of children.

2. Explain some common delays in early childhood.

3. Describe the importance of observation in identifying a child who may be presenting developmental delays.

4. Compare and contrast the difference between a typical developing child and one who may be experiencing delays.

5. Role play strategies to talk to parents about sensitive issues.
